Can I use a springform cake pan to bake a boxed cake mix?
My springform pan is just the size I need for the birthday cake I want to make, however I am not certain if you can put regular cake mix in a springform pan without it running out the bottom. I have never used a springform cake pan before, but I do know they are typically used for cheesecakes and the like. So, if I put a boxed cake mix in the springform pan, will it turn out as if I used a regular pan? Or should I just make do with my other cake pans and improvise to get what I need, so I spare myself a potential mess from the springform pan? Thanks for your advice!
Of course you can, any heat-proof container can be used to bake a cake!
HOWEVER, as you observed, the batter could possibly seep out from under the collar at the base - all you have to do is the following:
For any cake batter (except Angel food)
a) Lightly grease the collar and base of the spring-form pan
b) assemble the pan and line with a single round of "parchment paper/ wax paper/ greaseproof paper or baking liner paper", carefully easing it all the way around in the bottom and up the sides of the pan, crimping the paper down to make a fairly smooth liner
c) lightly grease AND flour inside the paper
For Angel food batter do NOT grease and flour the pan, just line it as best you can to keep the batter from seeping out the bottom seam. Grease will cause the egg whites to deflate and ruin the cake.
